About Summer Gems
Summer Gems is a handmade jewelry brand based in Barbados, created for women who want jewelry that feels personal, easy, and made to last.
Every piece is designed and handcrafted by me, Kimberley, right here on the island. I work with semi precious gemstones, fourteen karat gold filled, and sterling silver to create everyday jewelry that fits real life. Pieces you can wear from school drop offs to work calls to dinner, without thinking twice.
This brand is rooted in island life. The colors, the calm, the ease, and the warmth of Barbados show up in every design. I create jewelry that feels soft and polished without trying too hard. Nothing loud. Nothing trendy. Just pieces that quietly belong in your day.

How Summer Gems began
Before jewelry, my background was in biochemistry and microbiology. I spent years working in labs, following systems, paying attention to detail, and learning how things truly work. Jewelry became my creative escape from that world. What started as something I made for myself slowly turned into something others wanted too.
My sister was the one who pushed me into business without realizing it. She took a handful of my pieces to work one day and came back saying they sold. That moment changed everything.
I started selling at farmers markets, resort pop ups, and small events across Barbados. Those early conversations shaped how I still run this brand today. Listening first. Explaining honestly. Making sure each piece fits the person and the lifestyle it is meant for.
Summer Gems grew from there, one interaction at a time.
How I make your Jewelry
Every Summer Gems piece begins with a gemstone. I hand-select each stone for its color, clarity, and character, then wire-wrap it using traditional metalsmithing techniques.Everything here is made by hand, by me. There is no factory. No overseas production. No mass manufacturing.
Wire-Wrapping by Hand
I use 14k gold filled, rose gold filled, or sterling silver wire to secure each gemstone. The wraps are tight, symmetrical, and designed to last. . No shortcuts.I choose materials carefully because island life is real life. Heat, humidity, travel, swimming, busy days. I work with gold filled and sterling silver because they hold up. I wrap stones securely with wire. Nothing is glued. Pieces are made to be worn, not babied.
Hand-Forging & Texturing
Some pieces are hand-forged to create soft curves and organic shapes. I add texture using my pliers and tools, giving each piece a handmade, artisanal feel.
Quality Control
Before any piece leaves my studio, I inspect it for symmetry, durability, and comfort. If it doesn't meet my standard, it doesn't go out.Because I am local, repairs, adjustments, and tweaks stay on the island. If something needs fixing, you are not shipping it overseas or waiting months for a response. You are speaking directly to the person who made it.
That personal connection is part of the experience. You are not buying from a storefront or a brand name. You are buying from a maker who knows the piece, remembers the conversation, and stands behind her work.
Small Batches, Big Care
I work in small batches, often with rare or limited gemstones. That means your piece is truly one-of-a-kind, not mass-produced.
From my hands to yours
Whether you discover the brand at a farmers market table or online from across the world, my goal is the same. To make the experience feel warm, honest, and easy. Like you are standing right in front of me, trying something on, having a real conversation
Thank you for being here. I’m glad you found your way to Summer Gems.
